Thu, Nov 16, 6:00 to 7:00pm, Marriott, Grand Ballroom Salon E, 5th Floor

Abstract

It is meaningful to analyze sex difference of adolescent victimization because it can help practitioners with finding out the cause of crime victimization and improving prevention politics. The purpose of this study is to find out how crime victimization theories account for gender differences of adolescent victimization. This study used the Korea Youth Panel Study as analysis data. Logistic regression analyses were conducted to each gender samples to compare and examine influence of variables of following two victimization theories; Routine activity theory and Self-control theory.
The result indicates that variables that represent Routine activity theory holds greatest relevance to both genders' victimization. However, there are noticeable gender differences. Parent supervision, adolescents activities are influential for only female students. In contrast, male students are more effected by Self-control variables. Therefore, prevention policies for adolescent victimization should be taken into account with the sex differences.
