That's Not What That Means: Reducing Misinterpretation of Theory in Research and Practice

Thu, Nov 16, 7:15 to 8:15pm, Marriott, Grand Ballroom Salon E, 5th Floor

Abstract

Too often researchers and practitioners cite that they are using a particular theory to guide their work, but the links between the theory and the work are tenuous. Should these "mistakes" be corrected? This is a particularly important issue if weak examples of research dilute the power of the theory or suggest that the theory is difficult to implement in reality. This issue is explored in a poster highlighting examples from environmental criminology.
