Collective Efficacy, Race, and Attitudes toward the Police

Abstract

Numerous studies find race/ethnic differences in attitudes toward the police (ATP). Using a sample of 1500 respondents we compare ATP across Latinos, African-Americans and whites while controlling for neighborhood effects, such as collective efficacy. Results confirm that neighborhood effects matter to ATP, with some variation across race/ethnic groups.
