Session Submission Type: Complete Thematic Panel
Policing has, and still continues to be, a male-dominated and sex segregated workplace. Estimates of the percentage of women in police, in the United States, sits at roughly 12%, making them a minority even in large, urban police agencies. What are the experiences of these women? How do we as researchers make sense of these women’s perceptions of police work? The papers presented in this panel each present data about women in policing and offer suggestions for the future.
