Wed, Nov 14, 9:30 to 10:50am, Marriott, A707, Atrium Level

Session Submission Type: Complete Thematic Panel

Abstract

The WestEd Justice & Prevention Research Center conducts research and evaluation work on violence prevention, adult criminal and juvenile justice, and public health and broader prevention initiatives. This panel highlights recent projects that touch on each of these important areas and whose evidence can be used to inform decision making decisions about programs, policies, and practices relevant to justice and prevention. The first paper summarizes the challenges that face research and evaluation studies on violence prevention and other types of community-based interventions to document implementation readiness, and to imbed evaluation measurement into the evaluation process. The second paper presents findings from a series of case studies of Annie E. Casey Foundation's Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative (JDAI) across four states. The third paper, also focuses on the evaluation of state level implementation efforts, highlighting formative and preliminary outcomes of the Minnesota Statewide Initiative to Reduce Recidivism (MNSIRR) grant. Finally, the last paper discusses the development and evaluation findings of a tablet-based app specifically designed to educate young males (ages 14-19) in juvenile justice facilities across Oregon on puberty, sexual health, sexual consent, and healthy relationships.
