Session Submission Type: Complete Thematic Panel
This session explores the challenges confronting the current state of teaching and learning of criminology. The proliferation of instrumentalist reason, the relentless emphasis on individualism, the protection of profits with its attendant actuarial accounting of learning outcomes and the prevalence of neo-con traditions of racism, misogyny, ableism, classism and homophobia continue to trump critical inquiries into the nature of current criminological epistemologies and ontologies. Accordingly, both the learning and teaching of criminological knowledge have been compromised. Papers in this session address conceptually the teaching and learning of justice as a meaningful expression of "social justice" and further introduce substantive procedures to redress current pedagogical distortions.
