People commit crimes in different places. Some of them are committed in cities, some in villages. Jan Kochanowski, a Polish poet who lived in the XVI century, loved village life. For him the village was a place untouched by evil, it was a mainstay of values and morality, thanks to which people could feel happy. In one of his poems entitled “Saint John's Eve Song About Saturday Festive Night” he wrote “Wsi spokojna, wsi wesoła …” it can be translated into English as a “Peaceful village, joyful village …”. Is a village the same peaceful and joyful place nowadays? What crimes are committed in villages? What crimes are committed in cities? In the first part of my presentation I will try to answer that questions.
But the geography of crime is not only about the cities and villages as a places of crimes. That is why, I will also ask: What are the most common places of crimes, such as: murders, rapes, thefts, fights or drug distribution. I will analyse whether that places are streets, houses, schools, shopping centres, bus stops, discotheques, vacant spaces and isolated places etc.
