The Neuroscientific Intervention on the Analysis of Criminal Behavior

Wed, Nov 13, 11:00am to 12:20pm, Pacific A, 4th Level

Abstract

The present research seeks to explore the possibility of a Neuroscientific intervention in the analysis of criminal behavior, exploring the implications of the fusion between Neuroscience and Criminology. Nowadays, it is possible to make use of the technology used in Neuroscience not to foresee or determine, but to identify biological risk factors that, together with precarious psychological and social developments, may lead to the commitment of a crime. In that sense, the viability of preventing criminal behavior, given the identified factors, is studied. It is proposed to study crime as a biopsychossocial phenomenon, to be examined from three different fields that would lead to a satisfactory result in terms of motivation, action capacity and even punishment, while looking also to identify the ethical aspects of the use of this technology and application of a technique to repress the risk factors in an effective and non-damaging way.
