Session Submission Type: Complete Thematic Panel
The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and subsequent reauthorizations has allowed for significant investments in programs and research across the Federal government. The Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) currently administers 19 violence against women (VAW) grant programs and the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) has invested over $140 million dollars in research and evaluation on VAW. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC’s) works with national organizations, state health agencies, and other key groups to develop, implement, and promote effective violence prevention and control practices. This panel will highlight key investments that have translated into significant changes in policies and practices. In addition, panelists will discuss what efforts their agency is undertaking to build and use evidence to improve policy, program, budget, operational, and management decision-making to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the criminal justice system's response to VAW. This is a Division on Woman & Crime and National Institute of Justice co-sponsored panel on violence against women.
