Session Submission Type: Roundtable Session
There has been an increase in attention given to the language people use when discussing those affected by the carceral system. It is important that the terms we use as researchers give respect and humanize the experiences of this marginalized population. Do the terms we use to conceptualize those who have had experiences with the criminal justice system invoke potential stigma? This roundtable will discuss potential terminology for criminology/criminal justice researchers (especially those that study corrections and reentry) to put the identity of people before their status.
