Roundtable: Promoting Researcher-Law Enforcement Collaborations to Aid in the Transition to the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS)

Wed, Nov 13, 2:00 to 3:20pm, Golden Gate Salon B, Area 4, B2 Level

Session Submission Type: Roundtable Session

Abstract/Description

As January 1, 2021, and the impending retirement of the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program’s Summary Reporting System approaches, the need to demonstrate the utility of incident-based data to the law enforcement community becomes paramount for all stakeholders. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Justice Statistics invites any researcher with research experience working with law enforcement agencies to share “lessons learned” or “best practices.” The goal is to promote research partnerships between researchers and data scientists to highlight the benefits of local incident-based reporting—especially for agencies that have difficulty securing analytical support, or for agencies that have not fully developed data analysis capabilities.
