Considering acquisitive crime from farms, such as the theft of livestock, machinery, guns and tools, this paper will identify and assess an array of existing and emerging responses for prevention of these crimes. This includes technological responses, including cutting-edge property marking such as ‘foresnsic water’, but also contemporary best practice for policing responses and the encouragement of enhanced crime reporting. It points to push-pull alert platforms as part of an educative process. The paper will draw upon responses by farmers in Victoria, Australia, to a survey which collected responses to crime prevention measures, responsibility for crime prevention, and use of information resources.
