This presentation will cover recently released results from the 2018 Census of State and Local Law Enforcement (CSLLEA). Conducted since 1992, CSLLEA collects data from all state and local law enforcement agencies operating in the United States. Additionally, CSLLEA receives information about agencies that serve special jurisdictions (e.g., parks, college campuses, airports, or transit systems) or that have special enforcement responsibilities pertaining to laws in areas such as natural resources, alcohol, or gaming. CSLLEA gathered information on agency responsibilities, employees, and operating budgets for these agencies. Specifically, this presentation will report on the nearly 18,000 law enforcement agencies as of June 2018 and highlight national changes in agencies since 2008.
