For over 25 years, the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) has been the authoritative source for national statistics regarding the personnel, operations, policies, and procedures of law enforcement agencies (LEAs). These data are primarily collected through BJS’ core law enforcement data collection programs: the Census of State and Local Law Enforcement Agencies (CSLLEA) and the Law Enforcement Management and Administrative Statistics (LEMAS) core and supplement surveys. In addition to these collections, BJS maintains several national data collections covering special topics in law enforcement, including studies on crime laboratories and campus law enforcement. This panel discussion will feature an overview of BJS’s law enforcement data collections and present on four of the most recent studies on Law Enforcement published at BJS.
