This presentation will cover recently released results from the Survey of Law Enforcement Personnel in Schools (SLEPS). This collection gathered national-level data on the extent of law enforcement involvement in the nation’s K-12 public schools and the typical roles and responsibilities of officers working in these schools. SLEPS employed a two-phase approach, first surveying a sample of approximately 2,000 law enforcement agencies and requesting a roster of officers working in schools. The roster was used for the second phase, in which an officer sample was drawn for participation in an officer-level survey. Specifically, this presentation will detail the findings of the initial agency-level survey to demonstrate the roles and scope of school resources officers in the United States.
