Session Submission Summary

COVID-19 Pandemic and Domestic Violence

Wed, Nov 16, 8:00 to 9:20am, L401, Lobby Level

Session Submission Type: Complete Thematic Panel

Abstract/Description

There is increasing evidence that the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated domestic violence. Despite many commendable and promising programs to respond to domestic violence in the United States, we still do not know how these programs cope in the pandemic environment to serve domestic violence victims and survivors. This panel presents the preliminary findings of an ongoing 18-month National Science Foundation-funded collaborative research project between John Jay College of Criminal Justice and George Mason University. The project explores the impact of COVID-19 on domestic violence risk, service needs for domestic violence victims and survivors, and practices and challenges of service providers nationwide in rendering services to diverse populations.
