Session Submission Summary

The Impact of Family and Peer Relationships During Incarceration, Reentry, and the Onset of Criminal Behavior

Thu, Nov 17, 2:00 to 3:20pm, M105, Marquis Level

Session Submission Type: Complete Thematic Panel

Abstract/Description

This panel uses mixed methods approaches to understand how social ties to family and peers shape identity development and offending trajectories. Drawing on qualitative interviews, network analysis, and results from the fragile families data, the papers explore how micro-level social dynamics shape identity, reentry expectations, and behavioral adaptations to resource poor social environments. Findings from these papers contribute to our understanding of desistance, peer influence and inter-generational transmission of poverty.
