The Violence Intervention Workers Survey: An In-Depth View of Outreach Workers in Chicago

Abstract

In partnership with several street outreach-focused organizations in Chicago, researchers from the Northwestern Neighborhood and Network Initiative (N3) at Northwestern University and SUNY Albany designed and recently completed a survey of nearly all street outreach workers in Chicago. The Violence Intervention Worker Study, or VIeWS, offers a first of its kind look into work and lived experiences of street outreach staff and professionals. This session introduces the VIeWS project and presents some preliminary findings on the street outreach workforce to frame a conversation about the current state of the field in Chicago and beyond.
