Child molesters’ cognitive distortions are frequent treatment targets as they can be considered as some of the best predictors of recidivism (Hanson & Morton-Bourgon, 2005). Their assessment is generally done using psychometric tests (Vanderstukken et al., 2015). Despite the research’s interest in these tools, only a few studies got interested in the factor structure of the Bumby MOLEST cognition scale (Bumby, 1996) even though this test is often used in a clinical context. The main objective of the present study is to explore the MOLEST’s factor structure in a sample of individuals who have undergone treatment at the Intervention Center in Sexual Delinquency (ICSD) in Laval, Quebec (N = 508). An exploratory factor analysis of principal components with Oblimin rotation was performed. A six-factor model with an excellent factorial adequacy (KMO = 0.942) emerged. This study suggests that the MOLEST cognition scale measures different cognitive distortions manifested by child molesters.
