From History to Myth: Dziga Vertov’s Three Songs of Lenin

Sat, November 19, 1:45 to 3:30pm, Wardman DC Marriott, Floor: Mezzanine, Taft

Abstract

This paper attempts to understand the relationship between detail and event (as these concepts were understood by Soviet filmmakers and theorists of the 1920s-30s), by focusing on the shift away from the “documentary record” to what Sergei Eisenstein had termed “inner content,” and examining the changes Dziga Vertov introduced into his 1938 silent version of Three Songs of Lenin.
