This panel explores the nature and role of translation in the history and literature of Rus' and Muscovy. Adopting different approaches and methodologies, these three papers will consider in which ways translation and translators had the power to build a bridge between two distant cultures, to map literary transmissions, and to boost the cultural prestige of a new country.
