Central Asian, Russian, and East European Writing Workshop

Brief Description

Routledge, Taylor & Francis in collaboration with academic journals Europe-Asia Studies, Revolutionary Russia, and Journal of Baltic Studies, will host a writing workshop primarily intended to benefit early-to-mid-career scholars working in the field of Central Asian, Russian and East European studies.

The workshop aims to provide an opportunity for early career scholars to interact with resource-persons drawn from key academic journals and the publishing industry. It is intended as a platform for capacity development in our discipline and seeks to contribute to the development of a cadre of scholars who will be actively involved in writing and publishing, and in progressing the field. The workshop will use a small group mentoring approach through which participants work on their papers guided by experienced academic editors. We will also dedicate part of the session to answering general questions on publishing in journals in the field.

We are now ready to begin accepting draft papers to be worked on during the session. The academic editors seek original research and critical thinking and will look for papers that show the value of empirical studies for broader societal issues. During the workshop, papers may also be discussed by attendees, alongside the academic editors, where critique will be delivered in an egalitarian atmosphere.

After the workshop some mentors may continue to give advice to authors until the paper is ready for submission to one of the journals represented, or guidance may be provided on journals more suited to the topic, should the submitted paper not fall within the remit of the journals represented.

REQUIREMENTS
Doctoral students, postdocs and early-career scholars should submit the following:
(1) a 200-word biography
(2) a first version of for their article (6,500-8,000 words)
(3) a statement on whether they have published before, and if so, in what journal.

We shall accept a maximum of 10 papers for the workshop. Authors will receive the feedback on their articles during the workshop, and we will also consider forming responses to the feedback, which will be shared with the group, to assist in developing different ways of dealing review feedback.
