Session Submission Type: Panel
Despite it seeming peripheral geopolitical position in the global Cold War, Hungarian actors of all kinds played crucial roles in shaping the conflict’s politics around the world. This panel takes as its starting point that Hungary participated in the global—and not just East-West—Cold War in ambiguous ways by engaging in discussions and conflicts related to (anti)colonialist developments worldwide. The papers illustrate how this occurred in the realm of religious diplomacy, academia, sport governance and diplomacy, and development policies in the Non-Aligned countries.
