Producing International Journals out of Anglo-Saxon Space

Fri, November 6, 8:00 to 9:30am, Virtual Convention Platform, Room 9

Session Submission Type: Roundtable

Brief Description

The role of international journals in social sciences in the world is growing. Publications in high-ranking journals have become a universal indicator of scientific successes and achievements around the world. High ranks in the global hierarchy of journals are usually occupied by international journals, which originally arose as the cause and effect of Anglo-Saxon scientific culture. The subject of our discussion is journals, which had been established out of the Anglo-Saxon countries (Russia, Poland, France, Germany, etc.), but oriented to the rules and standards of international scientific culture.
We believe that such journals, published in different countries, face similar problems in recruiting authors, conflicts with national scientific cultures, improvement on international arena, overcoming language barriers, funding problems, etc. During the round-table discussion, we strive to formulate the phenomenon of these international journals, being produced from the Anglo-Saxon space, to problematize the role of these journals in the global world of scientific publications and to discuss common problems of development. We invite for discussion leading editors and members of editorial teams of internationsl journals, which are being produced in Russian and France.
Questions for discussion:
- What are the opportunities of the international journals, produced out of the Anglo-Saxon space, to be competable in global arena? Fails, mistakes, and success stories of development;
- Conflict of national and international scientific and publication cultures.
- Is it possible/productive to play in national and international arenas simultaneously?
- Are the international journal raitings really international?
- What is the role of the newly established international journals in the global journal hierarchy?
