The methodology of “Mapping Imagined Geographies of Revolutionary Russia, 1914-1922” enables comparison of perceptions of place and spatial belonging in a much larger number of literary works than has previously been possible. As a complement to traditional close reading—but not a replacement—mapping and graphing tools show literary networks and fabrics of perception that help us examine new topographies of Russian place-based identity in this time of troubles a century ago. This talk will focus the idea of “uncanny home” and its connections to decisions to emigrate from Russia.
