Critically Examining the Role of Early Admission in Predicting STEM Majors’ Participation in High-Impact Practices

Abstract

Critics argue early admissions programs favor privileged students, yet many campuses continually offer them. STEM majors and high-impact practices (HIPs) also attract privileged high-achievers; however, scant research exists connecting these targeted tactics. Regression analyses of a multi-institutional, longitudinal dataset reveal a significant relationship between STEM early admits and HIP participation.
