This collective case study explored the perceptions and experiences of eleven women presidents at doctoral-granting universities surrounding the intersection of leadership styles and legitimacy in the presidency. Various characteristics of leadership styles affected the legitimacy of the participants, including being collaborative/empowering, being communicative/transparent, authenticity, and having a transformative leadership style.
