BEA2012 Convention
April 15-18, 2012
Las Vegas
Welcome to BEA2012!
Once again, BEA’s annual convention will be co-located with the NAB Show in Las Vegas. We are thrilled to be returning to the Las Vegas Hilton from Sunday, April 15 – Wednesday, April 18. As always, we’ll be announcing special event and speaker information as it becomes available.

2012 Convention Spotlight – Tipping Points
The term "tipping point" was first popularized in the 1970s to describe white flight from urban America to the suburbs. More recently, Malcolm Gladwell has used it to describe how innovative ideas spread to "the moment of critical mass," to a "boiling point." According to Gladwell, ideas gain "stickiness" when they are adopted by mavens, then spread through people who act as connectors and salesmen. Like viruses, even small ideas can quickly become big deals. This spotlight will highlight those developments that have now reached or crossed the threshold of "something to consider for the future" to "it's happening, we have no choice but to deal with it." Tipping Points can also encourage conferees to consider their roles as—to use Gladwell's lexicon—mavens, connectors, or salesmen.

2012 Research Symposium: Media Management and Economics Research in a Transmedia Environment
Management and economics issues are the foundations of every media enterprise. Historically, media management and economics focused on single firms and industries. In the 21st century, the media industries are engaged in developing content across multiple platforms and are engaged in multiple industries, often in partnerships with competitors. As the media industries are undergoing transformation, the term "transmedia" is used in the call for papers for this year’s research symposium. BEA invites papers that explore new approaches to studying media management and economics.

Paper Competitions
BEA's 17 interest divisions invite scholarly papers from academics, students and professionals for presentation at the convention. Each division selects up to six papers - four for presentation and two as alternates. In addition, a few papers may be selected by divisions for consideration in the Scholar-to-Scholar (poster) session. Some winning papers receive monetary awards to help defray the costs of attending the convention.
