Inês and Norma: paths crossed in images, archives and political resistance

Abstract

In this communication, we will analyse a Super-8 film from 1979, which is in the possession of the Cinemateca Brasileira, recently digitised and never shown in Brazil. In this film, the political activist Inês Etienne is released from prison and the actress Norma Bengell alternates between filming and participating in the scene. The film is part of a larger research project that aims to analyse the paths taken by images produced during the civil-military dictatorship: their production, circulation and various uses.
