CIES 2012 Puerto Rico
The 56th Annual Meeting of the Comparative and International Education Society will be held from Sunday, April 22, to Friday, April 27 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The program will consist of presentations selected through this open call for submissions. In addition, there will be invited speakers, plenary and highlighted sessions, and professional development workshops.

Inquiries about specific committee or SIGs should be directed to the respective chairs. General inquiries regarding CIES 2012 should be directed to cies2012@psu.edu.

Guidelines for submitting papers and sessions are described below.

General Procedures and Policies
  1. Meeting the submission deadline. The submission system opens on July 18, 2011, and closes on October 31st, 2011 at 11:59 pm Pacific Time. No late submissions will be accepted.
  2. Participant attendance requirement. All presenting authors of accepted papers and participants in all accepted sessions are expected to attend the Annual Meeting and be present at the scheduled sessions. If an emergency or other circumstance prevents a presenting author from attending the Annual Meeting, he or she must immediately notify the CIES 2012 office and program chair.
  3. Participation limits. To promote broad participation in the meeting, individuals will be limited to one individual paper presentation. However, an individual may also serve as chair or discussant in addition to his or her presentation. In cases where an individual is participating in a group panel, that person may also present an individual paper provided that the content is substantially different.

Submitting Papers or Sessions

The early bird deadline for all submissions is October 1, 2011 at 11:59 pm (Pacific Time). The final deadline for submissions is October 31, 2011.

All submissions must be submitted electronically through the CIES Online Submission System. CIES members may access the Online Submission System using their member ID.  Members who have submitted a paper to CIES in previous years will have their login info emailed to them. First-time submitters will be required to create a new account.

Proposals may be submitted for the general conference program or for a session organized by a CIES Special Committee or Special Interest Group. Information about the Gender & Education, New Scholars, and UREAG (Under-represented Racial, Ethnic, and Ability Groups) Committees—as well as all 18 SIGs—is available on the CIES website at http://www.cies.us/groups.htm. See section on Special Committees & SIGs.

If you submit your proposal and it is accepted to a SIG, a $10 membership fee will be added to your conference registration.

If you are a doctoral student, you may submit a proposal to the New Scholars Dissertation Workshop.
Membership in CIES is required to present at the meeting.
