The first paper of this panel will present a detailed portray of comparative, international, and development education at the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt), and builds upon the short chronology used in the description of this panel. It uses two sources of information: 1) documents from the Institute for International Studies in Education (the IISE Archives), dissertations, institutional records, and other publications; and, 2) semi-structured in-depth interviews to some of the actors who contributed to construct the field within Pitt and beyond. Interviews will come from Seth Spaulding, Noreen Garman, John Weidman, Mark Ginsburg, and Maureen McClure. The findings will be presented as timelines, maps, and other forms of representation. This paper is part of an institutional project titled, “Mapping International Education.”
