A panelist from a prestigious applied research initiative will present findings from a study on adolescent girls who have been displaced by conflict and are currently living in South Sudan and Northern Iraq. A series of in-depth qualitative interviews capture the experiences of adolescent mothers and soon-to-be mothers about pregnancy, childbearing, childcare, decision-making, and impacts of motherhood on both the girls’ own lives and futures and that of their children. Then lessons are drawn about what kinds of policies and programs could best support these mothers and their young children.
