Group Submission Type: Pre-conference Workshop
As part of the 2018 USAID Education Policy, pre-primary is recognized as an important focus area to support holistic development of early skills for young children. The purpose of the pre-conference workshop is to familiarize participants with USAID’s Guidance for How to Develop High Quality Pre-Primary Programs. Participants will learn how to examine pre-primary systems and policy landscape, identify relevant stakeholders, and analyze opportunities to engage in the pre-primary sector. Facilitators will provide an overview of the guidance materials and walk through the various “decision trees” that USAID staff and partners may use to identify entry points for early childhood programming. This includes: (1) political will, investment, and leadership; (2) Regulating, monitoring, and supporting programs; (3) access to pre-primary education; (4) program quality; (5) pre-primary teacher workforce; and (6) family and community engagement. During the work shop, participants will engage with hypothetical scenarios to practice using the decision-trees and understand the process of making pre-primary programming decisions.
