Proposal

As the medium of podcasting has exploded in recent years, and the technological requirements of the medium have become ever more accessible through the widespread adoption of smartphones, educators have pursued methods of incorporating both instructor-generated audio and podcasts into their teaching, as well as exploring the use of learner-generated audio and podcasts. In this presentation, Leutheusser will reflect upon their experiences with implementing an audio assignment in their classroom, and the rewards and challenges in their work now to make this asset-based mode of learning an appealing and actionable goal for other instructors at a CUNY community college with two full-time faculty members in the Black Studies Across the Americas Project. Further, Leutheusser will also reflect on how their own professional development in regards to Learning Experience Design has been fostered through their work as a CUNY HA fellow. By bringing attention to the faculty of speech and by honoring students’ oral abilities by bringing oral narrative practices into the classrooms of myriad disciplines, Leutheusser believes that we work towards humanizing higher education.
