Does a strong vision for foundational learning ensure system alignment in South Africa?

Proposal

South Africa, which is another focus country in the 2024 Spotlight cycle, has a clear vision for foundational literacy and numeracy. The goal of ensuring that all children in South Africa can read for meaning in their home language and calculate with confidence is expressed as a target and is monitored and reported upon. The presentation will report on how the national vision is translated into the curriculum with relevant and effective teaching and learning materials; how teachers are supported; what support mechanisms exist at their disposal; and how the country monitors the achievement of its national vision.
