Description of Session

This on-site event commences the in-person program for CIES 2024 with welcome remarks
from a range of CIES organizers and office holders, including the CIES President Elect, CIES
President, Office of the Executive Director, WCCES President and the Dean of Education of the
University of Miami.
The CIES President Elect and 2024 Conference Convenor will introduce the conference
theme “The Power of Protest”, provide an overview of the program, and explore Conference
highlights.
The President Elect will then welcome the CIES 2024 Conference Artist in Residence, Miami
based artist Xavier Cortada. Xavier will give a short presentation on art, education and
protest and outline a series of activities that will engage conference goers over the course
of the conference.
