The vehicle routing problem with server drop-offs and retrievals: A suggestion for urban last mile deliveries

Sat, November 18, 8:00 to 9:30am, Atlanta Marriott Marquis, Floor: International Level, International Salon 9

Abstract

Delivery persons spend little time driving and much more time unloading, making door visits. As a result, delivery vehicles are parked for most of the operation time. When self-driving vehicles are put into use, the parked time can be considered underutilization of resources. This study presents a delivery model called the Vehicle Routing Problem with Server Drop-offs and Retrievals (VRPSDR). In this model, vehicles carry multiple servers that can be dropped off and retrieved along the vehicle's route. A server does not roam far from its drop-off point and is retrieved at the same point after the service time has elapsed.
