Advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals through BIoT: Blockchain Technology and Internet-of-Things

Abstract

We investigate how businesses can use Internet of Things (IoT) and blockchain technology to improve the integrity of United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) reporting. IoT combined with blockchain technology (BIoT) ensures privacy by creating a novel identity management system. Using IoT as an accurate data measurement tool with blockchain as an accurate and immutable data storage, management and reporting system can significantly improve the way that complex SDG data is captured across organizational boundaries which will enhance trust and cooperation while spurring business innovation.
