Welcome
The Education Practice in Leadership Conference was initiated in response to the Leading Forward Initiative of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) funded by the W. K. Kellogg Foundation, whose charge was to address the challenge of developing new leadership for the nation's community colleges through a series of activities that included reviewing today's leadership programs and comparing them to the leadership programs of the 1960's. The study revealed that college leaders require the following characteristics:
  1. Understanding and implementing the community college mission
  2. Effective advocacy
  3. Administrative skills
  4. Community and economic development
  5. Personal, interpersonal, and transformational skills

The Conference encompasses a tri-dimensional program focus to address characteristics found in the Leading Forward Initiative and hopes to attract current and future leaders.

Please note that one-hour of graduate credit will be granted by Iowa State University for attending the two-day conference.
