A mark of ownership, the ex-libris has been studied mainly as an artistic piece, identifying media, techniques, artists, commissioners and owners. But, like any artistic production, in this case miniature, the ex-libris gives rise to other interpretations that reveal the countless layers of information it contains.
Using methodologies specific to art history, collecting and science, we will present, based on ex-libris examples related to actors, spaces and projects of botanical knowledge production, a fundamental analytical tool for considering the ex-libris as another primary source in the history of science and technology.
