Session Submission Type: Roundtable
A major issue in the history of science is the integration of material culture into the study of knowledge cultures. While this approach is well-established in the history of technology, fields such as the history of cosmology, astral sciences, and mathematics are now exploring new ways, such as Digital Humanities and Mathematical Archaeology, to deal with the rich non-verbal traces of knowledge dynamics. This panel explores how the history of mathematics can find new avenues and approaches for investigating different regional traditions. The discussion will focus on how material culture offers unique insights into conceptual approaches to mathematics across different global contexts.
