Digital Seasons: How Time of Year May Affect Video Game Playtime

Abstract

This longitudinal study examines participants' Nintendo Wii digital diaries in an effort to identify seasonal patterns in consumers’ video game playtime across the 6 year product lifecycle of the Nintendo Wii. The analysis of the findings looks to address if any yearly milestones exist where playtime or certain genre appeal consistently increases or decreases. It will also address whether environmental factors like daylight, temperature, and season affect monthly playtime.
