Strong leadership requires the ability to tap into core wisdom values in order to make sustainable, long-term, and just decisions. In a complex world where knowledge can seem elusive and ever-changing, it is necessary to step back and look at a deeper picture of wisdom. For millennia people sought out the wise Elders to guide them, particularly women, the Knowledge Keepers of many societies. But what is the wisdom of Elders, and how do they reveal it? This study uses Indigenous and arts-based methodologies to look at wisdom in a different way than the scored or judged scale methods prevalent in the literature. Instead, the study attempts to capture the Indigenous concept of “heart wisdom” that is felt in the heart or gut. The results will be of benefit to the participants themselves, their families and communities, and can inform leaders on how best to make wise, far-reaching decisions.
Key Takeaway 1: What core values of wisdom can leaders learn from wise Elders?
Key Takeaway 2: How can wisdom be understood using an arts-based approach to inquiry?
