Session Submission Summary

Mining Continents: Connections and Comparisons between Africa and Latin America. PART I

Fri, November 17, 12:00 to 1:30pm, TBA

Session Submission Type: Roundtable

Abstract

Mining has been a central concern of scholars of both Africa and Latin America, yet with little overlap in the scholarship. Our roundtables (part I and part II) bring together scholars working on trans-continental connections and comparisons to reflect on what we can learn from case studies across the Atlantic. Can we identify common histories and trajectories? In these two roundtables, we will discuss questions of dispossession, migration, labour, corporate structures, environmental impact, technology, and the role of foreign capital.
