The Colectivo Literario Homoerótica, as a unifying entity, came to occupy a void in queer Puerto Rican literature. While there were other precedents in our literary history, it was not until the publication of Los Otros Cuerpos—an anthology that served as a catalyst of Homoerótica—that a queer theme emerged as a diverse collective of literary voices.
Its scope served not only in the development of a literary body, but it also always has been tied to the development of a cultural and activist community. Homoerótica, in its three years of existence, was one of the most important forums for queer-themed arts in general, already serving as a platform for the representation of other theatrical, musical, performance, and fine arts.
Through mass media, the collective became a prominent cultural phenomenon that established a milestone or watershed in the course of the history and the diffusion of queer as cultural component, coinciding with other efforts of cultural visibility like the Festival de Teatro del Tercer Amor and the Puerto Rico Queer Filmfest.
