This presentation will explore the promotion of Brazilian intellectual production in Hispanic America by the Biblioteca Ayacucho, a publishing organization created in the 1970’s in Venezuela. Envisioned by its founder, literary and cultural critic Ángel Rama, as an “instrument for the integration of Latin America”, it provided the material conditions for the translation, publication and circulation of the varied literary traditions within Latin America. Beyond a publishing project Biblioteca Ayacucho was also an extensive intellectual project that involved a transnational network of collaboration and exchanges of ideas. I will argue that Biblioteca Ayacucho effectively created an transnational route for the circulation of ideas while stimulating a critical dialogue between Brazil and Hispanic America.
