Printmaking Collaborations as a Means of Understanding and Expressing Views about Modern Conditions and Cultural Realities

Abstract

Prints have traditionally played a role in cultural communication through artistic interpretations and expression. Collaboration in printmaking allows artists to share their views and understanding of current and historic events, which can challenge conventional understanding. Collaboration resulting in the production of graphics works provides the opportunity for multiple exhibitions, lectures, artist talks, workshops and community experiences.

The collaborative work of Coronado printstudio and the Dominican York Proyecto GRAFICA facilitate cultural and community development in the absence of institutional, academic and commercial support.

This process has played a role in contemporary art and for the Dominican community has created a link between people on the Island and those who have migrated to the U.S.
