Mexican immigration to Canada, as opposed to that of the United States which is centenary, is more recent and diverse in demographic terms. Moreover, the reasons for Mexicans to immigrate have changed over the last decades. But irrespectively of their reasons to immigrate, their processes of incorporation and integration into the Canadian society have somewhat mirrored the outcomes of other non-white (i.e. visible minority) ethnic and national groups. The immigration experiences of Mexicans are also related to those of other Latin Americans in Canada, and are fundamentally located in relation to the majority white Canadian population. The analysis pays specific attention to the correlation between Mexicans’ education background, their participation in the Canadian labour market and the incomes they obtain in Canada.
