Session Submission Type: Panel
This panel examines the journey undertaken by Central American migrants traveling through Mexico to the United States. Questions considered are: How do migrants imagine the journey before hand? How do they communicate with loved ones back home during the journey? How is vital information about what lies ahead communicated? What are the differences between the reality of the journey experienced and its portrayal through the media? In essence the panel analyzes how many forms of media engage with and affect this issue and to what extent migrants, filmmakers, and journalists are able to contextualize the journey within the globalized economy.
