The negotiations of the free trade and investment agreement between the EU and the United States are already having an impact on global regional integration scene and most especially in Latin America. Observers and researchers are wondering the effects in the intra-Latin American systems of integration. How the EU-US project will affect the mechanisms of NAFTA? How the European-US scheme will affect the Central America-EU agreement? Will MERCOSUR come to terms and finalize the agreement with the EU? Will some of the Latin American countries enjoying or planning deals with the EU follow the path at a faster speed? Would a Latin America-wide integration solid agreement be the answer to the EU-US challenge? These are some of the questions that the paper will selective address and offer tentative responses, as a follow up of the publication of the recent volume, A New Atlantic Community: The European Union, the US and Latin America, Joaquín Roy (editor), Miami-Florida European Union Center/Jean Monnet Chair, 2015 (http://www.as.miami.edu/media/college-of-arts-and-sciences/content-assets/euc/docs/books/Atlantic2015.pdf)
